Recently, I finished an audio book called Miracle Morning. This book has been around for a while and I’ve been recommended this book by many people. It took me a while to finally read this book because I am not a morning person myself. I prefer to stay up late and get up late. However, this book made me realize some of the health benefits and psychological benefits of waking up in the morning. I will be sharing my learnings in this blog.
Starting Your Day The Right Way
One of the things that you're probably wondering is, "Well, if I wake up in the morning, what am I going to do?" There's a beautiful mnemonic that the author shares in this book which is “SAVERS.”
The first "S" stands for silence, specifically meditation. This means taking a moment of solitude where you can be quiet and connect within. The next letter is an "A" which stands for affirmations. Affirmations may come in the form of stating things that you want to be. Here are some examples of great affirmations:
I am powerful
I am confident
I am healing every day
I am prosperous and abundant
Those are some of the affirmations that you may want to write down and then read first thing in the morning.
The next letter is "V" which stands for visualization. What you can do for this component is visualize the day that is going to proceed. Be as specific as possible on how your day is going to go and for each activity, visualize them as perfect as you'd want them to be. Our brains are incredibly powerful and using that visualization tool can really help you get things done.
The next letter is "E" which means exercise. I know it can be challenging to exercise in the morning but I find that it gives you a lot more energy for the rest of the day. Incorporating even just a bit of exercise will hugely benefit you.
The next letter is "R" which stands for reading. This comes in the form of taking time to read and fill your brain with new information. If reading isn’t for you, you can also opt for audiobooks and listen to them while you’re doing other things.
The last letter is "S" and it means scribing, which is essentially writing. I personally like to write down my dreams when I first wake up. I believe there’s some connection between the dreams and the unconscious mind so I do my best to record all my dreams. If writing down your dreams doesn’t interest you, you can also choose to write down other things like journaling your thoughts.
To recap, “SAVERS” stands for silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading and scribing or writing.
