We will be posting a series of interviews from patients who have been treated at Reset Ketamine. To protect patient privacy, all responses are anonymous. We hope their answers will provide you some insights about ketamine treatments.
HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT KETAMINE INFUSION TREATMENTS, AND HOW DID YOU DECIDE TO CHOOSE THIS AS A TREATMENT OPTION?
I had been struggling with treatment-resistant depression and PTSD. I started a ketamine series at another clinic, but due to scheduling and transportation conflicts we were unable to keep the regular interval to finish the initial series. So I contacted Reset Ketamine to see if I could do a complete series with them. I was able to keep a good interval and completed the treatment in about five weeks.
WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH, AND WHAT OTHER TREATMENTS DID YOU TRY BEFORE KETAMINE?
Talk therapy, psychotropic prescription drugs, and the usual mainstream treatment.
WHAT WAS YOUR INTENTION OR GOAL FOR THE KETAMINE INFUSIONS?
I wanted to ease the symptoms associated with depression and PTSD.
HOW DID YOU FEEL GOING INTO YOUR FIRST INFUSION?
Since I had already had ketamine treatments at another clinic, I was eagerly anticipating getting back on track with the dosing and scheduling.
DID YOU EXPERIENCE ANY SIDE EFFECTS FROM THE TREATMENT?
I had zero side effects.
WHAT WAS THE KETAMINE INFUSION EXPERIENCE LIKE FOR YOU?
The ketamine infusions were relaxing and informative. The visuals and the integration of the material was interesting and self-reflective.
WHAT’S ONE OF THE LESSONS YOU’VE GAINED FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE FROM THE TREATMENT?
After the first treatment, I went from a black/dark affect to opaque sunshine. It wore off after a day or two, but I had another treatment right about then and then once a week for four weeks thereafter. Ketamine is a treatment that is best tailored to each individual. It was about a month after the last treatment when things started to change from subtle to noticeable. I learned more about “trust” and “attention.”
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS CONSIDERING KETAMINE INFUSION TREATMENTS?
If you can afford it, do it. If you don’t like it, you can make a choice after you try it. I was at a point where I would try anything to get out of the depressive stupor. Staying persistent and on “the plan” helped me regain my equilibrium. Eight months after the last treatment, I am able to read and focus. I am proactive in my life again. I’m much more productive both within and outside of myself.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?
If you are “stuck” and need something to break up the “stuck-ness,” ketamine can definitely help that process. I would not discourage anyone from trying it. But you have to want to get out of the rut and you have to work with the new “default mode networks” that you develop.
Ketamine helps to reset some of the brain’s habitual ways of responding to to thoughts and negativity. When you become aware of these changes, they need to be nurtured and fostered. For me, a booster infusion about a month after the last treatment helped make the new default mode networks even stronger.
