It’s no surprise that we are firm believers in ketamine infusions for the rapid treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and chronic pain disorders. However, we also recognize that ketamine is not the one silver bullet that is going to fix every single problem in your life. Yes, you may feel great after your infusion, but you can’t be on ketamine all the time - plus the effects of ketamine can fade over time.
This is where the integration of the ketamine experience into your daily life comes into play. Lasting change comes from making simple yet powerful changes in your daily life. In this blog, we will go over one simple tool you can use to know where to focus your energy on - The Wheel of Life.
With the Wheel of Life, your life is organized into 8 domains/areas:
Fun & Recreation
Friends & Family
Romance / Significant Other
Physical Environment
Money & Career
Spirituality
Health
Personal Growth
Look at each domain and rank them on a scale of 0 (worst) to 10 (greatest) on how satisfied or happy you are in that domain. Now draw a curved line to the number you gave each domain to create an outline of a circle. Once you complete this ask yourself, "Is this wheel that I've created balanced and symmetric or is it jagged and crooked?"
You’ll notice that one area of our life may have a high rank and another a much lower one. Ideally, you’ll want your wheel to be nice smooth and symmetrical. This is a great tool because it can give you insight into what domains need more attention and which areas you can celebrate! Watch the video above as Dr. Ko goes over his own Wheel of Life.
You can use this tool before or after your infusion. Using it before can provide guidance in helping you decide on an intention for your ketamine infusion. Perhaps you noticed your Friends & Family domain is low. You could set an intention before the infusion to gain insight or heal your relationships. After an infusion, filling out the Wheel of Life could help give clarity into what you experienced during the infusion or even validate insights gained during the infusion. Perhaps you are working through anxiety, and a lot of anxiety came up during the infusion but you couldn’t pinpoint where. Doing the Wheel of Life exercise may give you a clue in a lower-ranked domain that could correlate with feelings of anxiety.
The beauty of the Wheel of Life exercise is that you can use it at any time. You don’t even need to be undergoing ketamine infusions!
