We will be posting a series of interviews from patients who have been treated at Reset Ketamine. To protect patient privacy, all responses are anonymous. We hope their answers will give you some insights about the treatments.
How did you find out about ketamine infusion treatments, and how did you decide to choose this as a treatment option?
I heard about ketamine a couple of years ago. I watched a lot of YouTube videos, and did some more research on the topic and decided to give it a try.
What is the history of your mental health, and what other treatments did you try before ketamine?
I have complex PTSD, I suffer from depression and anxiety. I started taking SSRIs almost 18 years ago. Although the medication took away my anxiety, it left me feeling numb. Trying to taper off SSRIs is incredibly difficult. It takes months to taper down safely and the withdrawal is unbearable. I believe a lot of people find themselves in the same situation.
What was your intention or goal for the ketamine infusions?
I really felt that I could help myself if I was able to address and process the situations that lead to my PTSD. If I could go back to that time but view it through the lens of who I am now, I could finally let it go and stop carrying it around. I needed to lighten the load. I wanted to reset and start over.
How did you feel going into your first infusion?
I was very nervous but hopeful.
Did you experience any side effects from the treatment?
I was feeling a little sick to my stomach afterwards. Thankfully, I was premeditated with anti-nausea medication for the rest of the treatments and that was taken care of.
What was the ketamine infusion experience like for you?
I think after the second infusion, I started to feel a little more energized. Less anxious. I knew something was working and I looked forward to each one.
What was one of your most memorable experiences during the treatment?
My grandmother died a couple of years ago. I miss her so much everyday. I wore her ring to my ketamine infusions. Before I went in for the first treatment I just stared at her picture which made me less nervous. During my first infusion, I felt her presence. I started having wonderful memories of her flooding my mind. It helped me to focus on all the happy moments I had with her. It helped my grief a lot.
What’s one of the lessons you’ve gained from your experience from the treatment?
I learned to be more gentle with myself.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering ketamine infusion treatments?
My experience had a positive outcome. It was a way to get past roadblocks, and help me recognize patterns that were detrimental to me that needed to change. I hope ketamine can continue to help people and become a more widely accepted way of treatment for mental health issues.
What stands out in your mind about your experience with Dr. Ko and Reset Ketamine?
When you walk in, it doesn’t feel like a doctor’s office, yet its very clean and zen-like. Everyone one is pleasant and attentive. I knew I was taken care of before, during, and after the infusions. I had the best experience there.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I hope one day insurance will cover this making it more widely available
